Ruins
Ruins is a small to mid sized capture the flag map designed for Unreal Tournament in the U.T. editor. Its design was based on ancient Greek ruins, featuring various points of interest such as a colosseum, temples and houses.
CTF-Ruins focuses on the symmetry and verticality of first person shooter map design, with suggested pathways all converging at a central point on top of a hill.
Players are free to choose to take longer pathways over uneven terrain, providing more cover and close range weapons, or to brave the climb to the top of the hill where the high ground and snipers await them.
Ruins went through many iterations before settling on the final one, lots of areas and assets were added and some were removed. Various playtests were conducted to gain player feedback and each comment was taken into consideration when designing the next version.
The positioning of pickups and cover around the flags were altered a number of times as well as the size of buildings and barricades.
